Sheriff David Clarke Retires to Pursue Other Opportunities

Sheriff David A. Clarke has been a rising star in conservative political circles for years. He came to prominence after being appointed to fill the Milwaukee County Sheriff's position by Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum in March of 2002.  He then fought for, and won his office four different times.

From npr.org:
"After almost 40 years serving the great people of Milwaukee County, I have chosen to retire to pursue other opportunities," Clarke said. "I will have news about my next steps in the very near future" — in fact, he tweeted Friday that the announcement will come next week.
Sheriff Clarke was targeted for defeat by Michael Bloomberg because of Clarke's pro-Second Amendment policies. Bloomberg spent over $150,000 dollars in his attempt to defeat Sheriff Clarke in 2014. $150,000 was more than both Sheriff Clarke and his opponent spent on the campaign all together.   Clarke won the race with a handy 52% to 48% margin.

Bloomberg is thought to have been particularly incensed with Sheriff Clarke's public service ad in 2013. Here is the radio ad on Youtube:

Here is the text of the public service ad:

"I'm Sheriff David Clarke and I want to talk to you about something personal: Your safety. It's no longer a spectator sport.

I need you in the game, but are you ready?

With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option. You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back.

But are you prepared?

Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there. You have a duty to protect yourself and your family.

We're partners now. Can I count on you?

This safety message brought to you by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office."
Sheriff Clarke has been a prominent President Trump supporter. Considerable speculation exists about his retirement from the Milwaukee Sheriff's office as an canny political move. He may serve in a high level position in the Trump administration. The resignation allows Governor Scott Walker to appoint a replacement Sheriff more than a year before the next election in 2018.  Sheriff Clarke has been a speaker at two National Rifle Association annual meetings, in 2016 and 2017.

Youtube video of Sheriff Clarke at NRA Annual meeting in 2016:

In it, Sheriff Clarke opens with " Blue lives matter, Police lives matter, cops lives matter."  Sheriff Clarke correctly forecast that the demonization of the police by the establishment media and Black Live Matter would result in a police murders.

Sheriff Clarke congratulates NRA members in "Dodging a bullet" by electing President Donald Trump instead of Hillary Clinton.

Sheriff Clarke has a bright future. He tweeted he will reveal his plans next week after the labor day weekend, 2017.
